Paul Chodas, director of the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies, said asteroids like 2022 EB5 enter Earth's atmosphere around every 10 months, but it's hard to spot one before it's already entered the atmosphere. The International Meteor Organization said no meteorites from the asteroid have been recovered, but some people in Iceland reported seeing bright flashes, indicating the space rock became a fireball. "As more observatories tracked the asteroid, our calculations of its trajectory and impact location became more precise." We were able to determine the possible impact locations, which initially extended from western Greenland to off the coast of Norway," said Davide Farnocchia, a navigation engineer who developed Scout. "Scout had only 14 observations over 40 minutes from one observatory to work with when it first identified the object as an impactor. It was the fifth time an asteroid was spotted hours before it hit Earth and the first time it's happened since 2019. EDT, two hours after the asteroid was first spotted by Sarneczky, the asteroid hit Earth's atmosphere just as "Scout" predicted. "Scout" determined the asteroid would enter Earth's atmosphere around Jan Mayen, a Norwegian island roughly 300 miles northeast of Iceland. Luckily for Earth, the asteroid, named 2022 EB5, was around 6½-feet-long, a size "too small to pose a hazard to Earth," NASA said in a statement. The system then notified the Center for Near Earth Object Studies at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California and other asteroid impact systems. NASA's "Scout" system, which constantly searches the Minor Planet Center's database for any potential impacts, then calculated the asteroid's orbit, finding that the asteroid would certainly hit Earth. Sarneczky reported it to the International Astronomical Union's Minor Planet Center, which confirmed it was the first time the asteroid had been observed. On March 11, astronomer Krisztian Sarneczky noticed an asteroid at the Piszkéstető Observatory in Hungary. Watch Video: Fireball Streaks Across Sky Over IowaĪn asteroid around the size of a refrigerator was spotted hours before it hit Earth's atmosphere, and while it wasn't dangerous, it marked the fifth time in history an asteroid was detected right before hitting our planet. Im trying to have a good mod to fix some of the things I remember hating when I originally played it. Plus, for the time being you can still run around god mode using normal Igni three-shotting any mob in the game apparently but, even if/when that too is scaled back in damage output, a sign build is and will still be viable. I have just finished Witcher and Witcher 2 in the build up to replay Witcher 3 since I never played the prequals. There were few posts about recreating animations, but it's almost impossible to make it real. Don't know about the Igni, but I can tell you for sure there is none that will mod anything with animations. Damage output of Firestream is still fine and deadly. Even in the Witcher 2, Geralt does hold the sword with both hands while in combat, same in the old trailers. So I did indeed have abilities nerfed that I had been using since launch and I still applaud the new changes as it makes for a more balanced and enjoyable game.įurthermore, as proved by my post, this change does not force you to play some other build now. Puppet is also decent at focusing a group's attention on their own ally. However firestream basically guarantees the proc, and it's great for managing crowds. For someone not going a full sign build like myself, the burning effect isn't as likely to proc. I only did other builds simply to test them out. Even after the igni nerf, I still think firestream is useful. To your third point, I find it ironic because I myself have played as a pure sign build 90% of the time since release. So your points #1 and #2 are acknowledge, but refuted. The fact that it is not as useful as regular Igni is indeed currently true, but clearly normal Igni damage needs to be scaled back just as much for comparable damage. After the rebalance of all skill branches in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (4.0), some of the skills have undergone significant changes (nerf or upgrade). The current damage output of Firestream is fine and rather balanced. IMHO I think it's clear that Igni damage is more than fine like this.Īu contraire, I believe you're missing my point. 1.8K Share 252K views 7 years ago A quick look at all the Alternative Sign Modes in the Witcher 3 including Aard Sweep, Firestream, Active Shield, Magic Trap and Puppet. That means someone could do the same thing as I just did but swap those Yrden runes with 7 Igni runes for another +70% Igni sign intensity. So please elaborate on how this spell now useless? Even against a monster that doesn't get stunned while he's burning, Firestream can't be blocked/parried and clearly deals plenty of damage post 1.07.įurthermore, this isn't even the highest Igni damage you can get as all my current armor runes increase my Yrden sign intensity. Having been lumped in with run-and-gun first-person shooters since the time of its release (CGW magazine called it "Doom on Benzedrine in a vacuum"), Descent's numerous innovations have often been serially overlooked. What else should I be playing if I like this: There's been no shortage of Descent-style games recently, including Sublevel Zero, Retrovirus and NeonXSZ, and we're big fans of Overload and Blast-Axis, too. And don't listen to the naysayers, the final game drops the ball a bit during the closing act, but otherwise it's a cracking end to the trilogy. The middle game might be the best, but the first lays all the groundwork. And being the boss largely means telling people what to do - and snogging.Ĭommander Shepard's second mission remains their best - it's a planet-hopping Argonautica and suicide mission with some of BioWare's best-realised characters - but now the entire trilogy has been remastered as part of the Legendary Edition, there's really no reason not to play the whole lot from start to finish. You're not Sulu, blowing Klingons out of space, or Chekov, piloting a ship you're the boss. The Mass Effects are Captain Kirk simulators. What else should I be playing: Mass Effect wouldn't exist without Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which saw BioWare bid farewell to Dungeons & Dragons and head into space for the first time. Where can I buy it: Steam, Humble, Origin Mass Effect Legendary Edition Developer: BioWare It's enormously entertaining, and its hand-crafted locations are some of the glossiest and most spectacular pockets of galaxy this side of No Man's Sky.ġ9. Just, you know, without the endless grind cycle. Each has their own special and passive abilities, and if it weren't for the flying around in space aspect, you could almost swear you're actually playing something like Diablo. While the first game was more of a roguelike, Everspace 2 ditches that structure for a more traditional action RPG that sees you gradually upgrading your ship with bigger and better parts and weapons grabbed from ships you've just obliterated with some well-executed laser beams.īattles are spectacular and frantic, but beneath the space fighting veneer, these ships are essentially behaving like your favourite RPG classes. Instead, try Chorus (the one whose logo looks like Chorvs), or Star Wars: Squadrons.Įverspace 2 is a classic arcade space shooter that feels like it's flown in through a wormhole from the early 00s. What else should I be playing: The first Everspace was a roguelike, so if it's arcade space shooting you're after, going backwards isn't advised. Disagree? Tell us about your favourite space game in the comments below, and maybe you'll convince others to give it a try.Ģ0. Plus, while there are still plenty of classics here, we've mainly focused on games we'd recommend you play today, rather than a 'greatest space games of all time' affair. Games about settling down on the surface of a new planet such as Surviving Mars and Astroneer, or those set in space-like locations such as Alien: Isolation aren't present in this list, as you never actually get to go to space while you're playing them. There are still plenty of hybrid games in our best space games list, from RPGs and space-themed strategy games, but almost all of them are about being in space, whether that's hurtling across the universe in a ship of some kind, or wafting around in zero gravity. We've kept our definition of "space game" fairly traditional here. Whether you're a budding space cruiser captain, a wannabe space conqueror or an intrepid space-faring explorer, there's a space game for you. But what games have gone before them and staked their claim already on the dusty planet surface known as 'Best Space Games'? We reveal all below, with our carefully curated list of all the best space games you can play on PC right now. Video games are great at transporting us to different worlds, but none capture that feeling quite so perfectly as intergalactic space games - and 2023 looks set to be one of the biggest years for space games yet, with the launch of Starfield, Homeworld 3 and more all on the horizon. Reflecting on that moment with Vanity Fair, Oprah said, “You know, I didn’t think it was going to be emotional for me, but it ended up being emotional for me too! She so wanted it. The “Free Yourself” singer shared a video on Instagram about the moment she found out she won the part of Celie. Today, the receptionist called to set up an appointment and was very short and rude on the phone. They continued on and started to gossip about another coworker being gone and why/where he/she was. When I was checking out and paying for the visit, the receptionist, mid transaction, stopped to talk to another employee about lunch. The receptionists seemed bothered that they would have to assist me. Apparently they wanted to take my blood, or so it was figured out from the several nurses in the hallway who noticed I was in the room. A nurse led me to a room and left without saying anything. In my initial visit, there seemed to be a drastic lack of communication. However, the staff is why I switched PCPs. Initially, I was surprised they had an opening for new patients in Fitchburg. I plan on continuing my membership in the national chapter of AMA after graduation.Unfortunately, I had a similar experience as the other user. For my last year, I chose to focus mainly on my favorite organization, American Marketing Association, and became a member of the executive board as Vice President of Community Outreach. I have been a member of four different organizations over the course of my four years. I also became very involved with student organizations. Badger game days were easily my favorite days in the fall. I was lucky enough to get student season tickets for football every season during my college career! Though the morning of buying tickets through the busy online server can be very stressful, it was always worth it. I spent a lot of time and effort on my studies to maintain an above average GPA, but I still made sure to have some Badger fun. This coming Tuesday I will be starting my final semester at UW Madison! I am very excited and proud of myself for earning my Bachelors in Business Administration for Marketing. There is no other school I would wish to attend. I adore this campus, and I am extremely grateful for the Lakeland Badger Chapter Alumni and the scholarship supporters that have helped make my dream come true. I feel I can call Madison my home away from home. I volunteer once a week at a local middle school working with students on science projects. I am also helping with a clinical trial in the Wisconsin Sleep Lab that involves studying patients with epilepsy, an experience that is more than rewarding. I am working on developing an animal model for delirium. I currently work part time in the Department of Anesthesiology as a student research assistant for Matthew I. This semester I am taking developmental neurobiology, behavioral neurobiology, physics, and East Asian refugees of the Cold War. I am still an aspiring pediatric neurologist, and I will take the MCAT and apply to medical school at the end of the year. I have changed my major to the new Neurobiology Major offered on campus, and I am also obtaining an Honors Degree in Liberal Arts. I'm starting the second semester of my junior year at UW-Madison. Each day I take as an opportunity to make my hometown proud! On Wisconsin! I would like to thank the Lakeland Badger Chapter - Wisconsin Alumni Association for the scholarship allowing me to explore and take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities the University of Wisconsin-Madison has to offer. This semester I will also be volunteering at a local hospital to get my clinical experience before applying to medical school! For fun, I actively participate in intramural sports because I refuse to let my love for competitive sports die. I am also on the board of my student organization I started as a Freshmen called Student Emergency Medical Services (SEMS). It feels good to give back to the community that I have called home for the past few years. This semester will be my third with the Badger Volunteers and in this organization, I have volunteered at a local food pantry, elementary school, and a nursing home. This past summer I worked for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences as a SOAR Peer Advisor helping incoming freshmen and transfer students create a schedule for the fall semester. For life, outside of the classroom, I am currently conducting research with a post doctorate in a breast cancer lab at the Wisconsin Institute for Medical Research, I also work part time for another lab at this location. I am majoring in Biology with Pre-Health Aspirations. I had a very relaxing Christmas Holiday after another exciting semester here at UW Madison. Industrial PLCs and their consumer product counterparts are key to helping makers of all levels of expertise bring their ideas and inventions to life. Not only have more affordable alternatives to traditional PLCs like Raspberry Pi and Arduino become available, there has been a rise of maker communities for novices and also a growing demand for experts in the robotics process automation market. That, however has changed as the maker movement, an offshoot of the DIY trend, has gained traction. Until recently, these digital mainstays were almost exclusively in the domain of people working directly in the service and manufacturing industries. I would use an Arduino to power my self-watering plants or track the temperature outside, or power some home automation stuff, but I would use a Raspberry Pi as a retro gaming platform or a web server.Programmable logic controllers are one of the wizards behind the curtain of industrial automation. It does not even have a network (I’m talking about the Uno) out of the box.Ī Raspberry Pi is more like a small computer without a screen, which you program using more traditional tools. You don’t have to worry about anything as there is nothing else than your program running on the Arduino. In my opinion Arduino is best when you want to compile a program for it, attach a battery or a power connector and put it somewhere to run, and play around with sensors and other nice stuff that interfaces with the real world. There are similar tools for other languages, like pyserial and Gobot. If you can live with the constraints of having the Arduino attached to the USB port of the computer, you can run Node.js code on it using the Johnny Five project, which is pretty cool. What about programming?Īrduino is best to be programmed using C++ and its “Arduino language” which is just C++ with some convenience features that make it easy for beginners to start with. You can program a Raspberry Pi in pretty much any programming language you want, as if you run Linux there is a vast choice for you. I researched those numbers, but I haven’t measured them myself yet. Individual I/O pins in Arduino can drive 40mA while Raspberry Pi GPIO pins can each drive a maximum of 16mA. Right? Wrong.Īrduino consumes much less power ( ~50 mA idle) than an a Raspberry Pi ( 700+ mA)Īrduino has 20 I/O pins. Given those differences you might think a Raspberry Pi is so much more powerful and capable than Arduino, so you should use that. It’s a mini computer, while Arduino is much more simple. Raspberry Pi runs an operating system, which is usually Linux. It can only run programs that were compiled for the Arduino platform, which mostly means programs written in C++. Lots of things.Īrduino has no operating system. In terms of I/O, Arduino has an USB-B port that can be used by a computer to transfer new programs to run, a power input and a set of I/O pins.Ī Raspberry Pi is much more sophisticated in this regard, having a Video output, an HDMI port, an SD card port, an Audio jack, CSI camera port, DSI display port, 4 USB 2.0 ports which you can use to attach USB devices, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2 and I/O pins (GPIO) as well. The Raspberry Pi comes with a 64-bit microprocessor. Arduino comes with an 8-bit microcontroller. Turns out, they are very, very different. They look pretty similar, at a first look. Here is Arduino Uno, the board we’ll take as an example, although Arduino offers many different boards. There are many, many others, but those are the two most popular and in this article I want to explain the difference between those 2. Two of the most popular platforms for such a thing are Arduino and Raspberry Pi. When I got the idea of playing around with electronics after 15+ years of not touching a single resistor, I recall I spent some time searching which device was best for what I wanted to do. A comparison of two of the most popular platforms to tinker with |
